Abstract |
The education sector all over the world had resorted to e-learning because of
the COVID-19 pandemic which caused all learning institutions to shut down
physically in March 2020. Students are facing various problems in Online
Distance Learning and the issue which concerns them the most is the
availability of the Internet. In Sarawak, most of the students who stay in the
outskirts of Sarawak find it hard to get a fairly good Internet connection.
Moreover, rainy days will further aggravate the problem as connectivity will be
difficult to assess. Hence, there is a dire need to create a platform which is not
only interesting and educational, but also accessible by all students no matter
where they are and how their internet connection is. With the impending
situation, Listen Right was created for Integrated language Skills 1 (ELC121) in
order to cater to the needs of the students. Listen Right aims to achieve three
main objectives: 1) to create an interesting learning environment for students to
learn listening, 2) to promote self-directed learning among students 3) to
produce a platform for both teachers and students to gain feedback on the
success of the listening lesson. One of the most interesting features of Listen
Right is its ubiquitous access which allows the teaching-learning process to
take place anytime and anywhere. The results from the pilot test revealed that
students viewed Listen Right as a useful and practical tool for learning listening.
The product has commercialisation potential as it is a ready-made teaching aid
which can be sold in the market as E-listening textbooks. |
