Abstract |
The current global pandemic has resulted in
diversifying teaching and learning methods to
cope with the challenges of knowledge-sharing.
In view of this, virtual mobility is seen as an
integral alternative to traditional exchange. The
augmented role of virtual mobility programmes
has made it possible for students from other
countries to study from anywhere around the
world to exchange international educational
experience (Koris, Mato-Díaz, & Hernández-
Nanclares, 2021). To implement this, an
interactive Virtual Mobility (i-VMo) Kit is
developed as a learning modality with the
purpose to enhance students’ knowledge and
skills through language learning and cultural
exchange in an open education. The kit
consists of seven modules focusing on basic
Malay language and introduction to the cultures
in Sarawak, Malaysia. It is designed for
international undergraduate students from
China, Indonesia and Thailand, who
participated in a virtual mobility programme
hosted by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM),
Cawangan Sarawak. The virtual mobility
programme was conducted for three
consecutive days and the kit was used across
all activities. Overall, students showcased
positive feedback regarding the modules
presented in the kit, emphasising on
“interactive”, “fun” and “useful” in their
responses. The novelty of this product lies in its
flexible and innovative online resources that
promote students’ transferable skills and
diversification in higher education. As an
alternative to on-site teaching, i-VMo Kit
provides learners with enriching learning
experience as students immerse in social-
cultural exchange, thus promoting
internationalisation in higher education.
