e-SPICE is an interactive software which attempts to introduce learners to the world of phonetics. It is an interactive multimedia software which gives a new dimension to pronounce English words correctly through its interactive approach. Its two-fold objectives are to familiarize learners with the English phonetic system by introducing basic phonemes in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), and to enable learners to use their knowledge of English phonetics to engage in computer-based interactive activities with the purpose to improve their pronunciation. Unlike other interactive software available in the market, SPISE’s novelty lies in the Pre-Activity stage, in which learners are gently immersed in instructions on certain basic phonemes of English found in the IPA. This innovative software promotes self-directed learning, provides immediate feedback, makes learning fun and interactive, as well as enables learners to do self-assessment. Hence, learners will find it easy to relate to and engage with the activities and exercises provided. e-SPICE is available online and learners can easily access it. As online education is on the rise, it gives learners the flexibility to access e-SPICE 24/7. |
