Abstract |
Chain rule differentiation is used extremely often. It shows up in various
forms in other derivatives and integration. It confuses many students due to
they have difficulty in recognizing composite function. Build and Split Boxes
method (BSBM) is used to memorize basic calculus facts and reduce the
likelihood of making mistake during differentiation. Two sections are applied.
First section, students were asked to build one big box function from three
different small size box functions. Second section, students were asked to
split one big box function into different small size box functions, and then
differentiate each of small box functions. During tests and quizzes, students
had shown their BSBM to find the solution, able to memorize basic calculus
facts, and manage to reduce mistake while performing chain rule
differentiation. |
