Project Title | Ezcocopod Splitter |
Project Category | Innovation |
Abstract | Traditionally, the farmers open the coco pod using machete or hitting two pods together to get the bean inside. The quality of cocoa bean usually affected during the post-harvesting process using this traditional approach. There is a high risk of injury of using machete and the cocoa beans can be damaged as well. The damage of the beans will lead to poor quality of cocoa beans. The affected quality may decrease the price and grade of the beans. Opening the pods with the machete is also very strenuous. Ezcocopod Splitter is able to break different size of pods and the blade is adjustable. The thickness of each cocoa pod is within 0.8-1.2 cm allows the blade to cut through the cocoa pod without affecting the cocoa beans. The design is friendly user and easily applied by cocoa grower. Ezcocopod Splitter is simple, cheap and reliable to be used by the grower as well as researcher to control the quality of cocoa beans. Instead increasing the number of yield, the quality also can be maintained. |
