Derived from the Swahili word of “naira”, which means with utmost purpose,
NieAra is a literacy mobile app that holds true to the primary purpose of
promoting vocabulary mobile acquisition for children with learning disabilities
such as dyslexia. The application is designed based on theoretical foundations
of gamification and language acquisition in aiding the learners to learn words
effectively in an engaging manner. It uses several localised metaphors in
creating suitable learning paths for learners to learn words as they complete
well-designed learning missions. As they complete each mission, they are able
to acquire set of contextualised words and the app is capable of mapping out
their acquisition of much-needed literacy skills (reading and writing). |
