Project Title Discrete Discretion
Project Category Innovation
Abstract Discrete Discretion is a statistical teaching innovation that provides discretion on discrete variable. Learners always face problem to write the correct sign of inequality together with the value of variable when finding the cumulative probability in two general situations: (i) when rule of complementary event is used, and (ii) when adjusting the sign of inequality and the value of the variable in order to read the probability from a cumulative probability distribution table. This problem is critical in the discrete variable as the signs of inequality with equal and without equal give totally different meanings. The main breakthrough of Discrete Discretion is that it makes learners visualise the discrete scale without gap. The effectiveness of Discrete Discretion is evaluated empirically. The learners’ performance in the related topic is analysed qualitatively. Discrete Discretion helps to solve the problems mentioned earlier, and learners work out the correct steps and answer. Some learners even use it as a tool in an alternative method for checking the answer.
