In Statistics course, executing Normal Approximation to
Binomial or Poisson Distribution involves the need to apply
continuity correction, specifically when we apply continuous
function to approximate a discrete one. The simple steps of
modifying (adding or subtracting 0.5) the discrete x-value are
made complicated by the various interval situations. Some
students may take longer time to decide the right interval
when solving problems. CCTeLe8 is innovated to overcome
the problem faced by the students and can be used to
enhance students’ understanding in these topics. Through this
aid, students can visualize the correct conversion for all the
nine transformation cases. It helps students who have
difficulty in identifying an appropriate continuity correction.
This method has already been implemented in classes and
evaluated using pre-post test design. The comparatively much
higher post test score indicates significant improvement.
Additionally, this product can be assembled easily and at
minimal cost. We believe it will benefit individuals involved in
learning the above topics. |
