Abstract |
In higher education of teaching and learning, competition-based learning
(CBL) model is one of the approaches used by educators to overcome
students’ deficiencies in their learning acquisition. Using the CBL model, a
specific learning activity was conducted via the preparation of mind mapping
video for the course of Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting 2 on
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) topic. The steps involved are: 1)
Briefing on rules and regulations of the competition; 2) Extracting of concepts
from the text book; 3) Preparing mind mapping video by students in a group
and submitting to the lecturers, 4) Evaluating mind mapping video based on
content (30%), effectiveness (30%) and creativity (40%) and 5) Requesting
feedback on the effectiveness of the competition in a survey designed in line
with the Outcome Based Education (OBE) system, by the Ministry of Higher
Education. Majority of respondents agreed on the effectiveness of this
learning activity. Two benefits derived from the activity are - to understand the
subject matter by using the mind mapping technique and to produce a video
to be shared via You Tube and uploaded on the i-Learn system, in line with
the 4.0 industrial revolution in higher education. The CBL: e-Mind Mapping
video is a unique learning activity for the accounting program at Universiti
Teknologi MARA, which is commonly used in science and technology-based
programs. |
