Abstract |
DISH-IT-OUT is a language game which focuses on vocabulary and sequencing activities. The theme of the game circulates around different types of local traditional dishes in Malaysia. Hence, the game will introduce learners to the special and unique ingredients and the processes involved in preparing the dishes, in which they can enhance their knowledge of local dishes, at the same time improve their English language. The game is suitable for intermediate learners of English and it can even be introduced to foreign tourists who want to know more about our local cultures, especially, traditional dishes. Moreover, tourism agencies are able to offer enjoyable and rewarding activities for the tourists by displaying the game at tourism spots, hotels, homestays or holiday resorts. The game can be played by tackling simple tasks of identifying Malaysian local dishes via pictures of ingredients, as well as the processes involved in preparing them. The novelties of the game are it involves pictorial illustrations of famous local dishes and jigsaw arrangement of dish preparation. This will add up to the existing activities that have been laid out by educators to introduce cultural topics which relate to local dishes to their students (can be used as lead-in activities) as well as to introduce our local dishes to foreign tourists. Learning process can be made more interesting and exciting with their colorful layout and pictures. |
