Abstract |
ConsAware is a scoring sheet developed to determine the level of
awareness of construction industry players on waste control practices
included in the institutional law and regulations. The index consists of 30
items developed from both the Environmental Quality Scheduled Wastes
Regulations 2005 and Environmental Quality Act 1974. The level of
awareness could be categorized as ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘satisfactory’, ‘fair’
and ‘poor’. The use of ConsAware would encourage construction firms to
emphasize the knowledge on waste control practices, which in turn could
assist them in conserving the environment. In addition, the evaluation via
ConsAware could be used as one of the criteria for tender or contract
awarding in Malaysia. ConsAware could be potentially commercialized to
determine the level of awareness of construction industry players on waste
control practices included in the institutional law and regulations. This
product is an outcome from a research study entitled ‘New Sustainable
Construction Waste Control Compliance Framework’, funded by the Ministry
of Education, Malaysia, under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme
(FRGS) - 600-RMI/FRGS 5/3 (101/2014) through the Research
Management Institute, Universiti Teknologi MARA. |
