Project Title Dynaponic: A Chamber for Production of Mycorrhiza Inocula
Project Category Innovation
Abstract Mycorrhizal inoculants have been widely used in the agriculture industry as an enhancement in fertilizer as they have been proven to have a significant role in plant growth and health. Adding mycorrhizal inoculants have increased the efficiency of fertilizers and thus been branded as the green health enhancer. Mycorrhiza spores are widely sold to fertilizer producing companies as these have been accepted widely as viable natural elements in the fertilizer formulation. Therefore contaminant free mycorrhiza spores for industrial scale production for top quality for mycorrhizal inoculants to develop high quality fertilizer products has been a challenge. The current production of mycorrhizal inoculants using the aeroponic chamber based on a generated fog of nutrient stock solution by a water pump and spray nozzles system with water piping has high energy consumption and frequent water leak in the filter. In addition the aeroponic chamber is costly and heavy. The dynaponic chamber is a less complex unit but includes all the virtues of the aeroponic chamber but does not require the water piping system. It only needs an air pump which consumes less energy. The material for the tank is light weight plastic for easy handling. The overall cost of a dynaponic chamber is a fifth of the cost of an aeroponic chamber.
