Abstract |
Managing student attendance manually is a cumbersome process that takes
valuable class time each day that could otherwise be used for instruction.
The digital attendance management system automates several aspects of
the attendance process. Every student's official school ID will encode that
student's identity digitally. When the student enters the class, he will swipe
or scan the card registering his attendance. At the beginning of class, the
instructor (and the administration) will know exactly which students are in
attendance and which are missing. Students who have not registered for
the class will be flagged. Absence/attendance will be recorded and
notifications to the administration and students and parents or guardians
can be automatically triggered. There are no forms to fill out or potentially
lose. Attendance history is maintained in a permanent database. Complex
rules can be implemented. For example, the student's guardian might be
automatically notified by the system after 3 unexcused absences, by phone,
email, or however the guardian prefers. Reports can be generated for the
administration detailing student attendance patterns and trends, or
identifying problem students or classes most missed. |
