3D Hydro-FloodSim is a flood simulator which simulates a flood scene in a
3D computer model by utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS), river
hydrographic survey and also hydrology data. Recently we have been
troubled with flooding issues all over Malaysia including Shah Alam
(Selangor), Manek Urai (Kelantan), Penampang (Sabah) and Sibu
(Sarawak). However, seeing how we react during the flood occurrences and
the fact that this continuing problem is hard to be resolved are what makes
such model more significant to be developed and applied in the field. Those
inundated areas have brought serious damages and losses of properties to
the citizens. It is mainly due to the overflow from river banks especially in
rainy season. With this 3D model, it will be easier for town planning
management to be conducted especially for the related agencies to identify
the low-lying areas which are exposed to the flood risk, so that they could
prepare sufficient evacuation route and serve as a flood warning system for
the public. In addition to that, this model could help to find alternatives for
flood mitigation, instead of depending too much on the conventional hard
curative measures. We believe that this model is a must-have product that
needs to be developed extensively as to reduce the impact of flood or as a
measure to prevent flood in the future so that it could reduce the disastrous
impact of flood toward the nation and human lives. Also, it enhances the
development of both state and nation. |
