Abstract |
In large scale vermicomposting, the process is done in concrete beds of 10
ft by 3 ft. When the vermicompost are matured and ready for sale, the
earthworms have to harvested. In the conventional method, the earthworms
are picked by hand after racking through the vermicompost with a hand
scoop. The Vermicompost Worm Separator is a two-stacked bin with an
enclosed top bin kept at temperature of 45ËšC with holes at the bottom to
allow the worms to migrate to the cooler bottom bin leaving behind the
compost due to the heat. The migration process completes within two days
and the vermicompost can be packed. In addition, the earthworms will not
be injured as there is no need to rack through the vermicompost to search
for them. Thus the job of harvesting the earthworm is made cleaner,
quicker, easier, safer and more economical for the producers in the
agriculture industry. |
