Compost Turfing Mat is a turfing surface material made of compost sown
with grass seeds, one high-strength net and biodegradable plastic bag
backing, for landscaping. The turf mat is stored in dry condition to maintain
seed dormancy before use. Planting of grass is carried out to add to the
aesthetic value of the environment or prevent soil erosion. Turfing with full
coverage of grass over open space is very expensive. Most work is done by
sodding, however, the grass takes time to fully cover the ground and erosion
would have taken place. The Mat prevents immediate minimal erosion as
the compost provides first generation covering protection. When used, the
compost regulates moisture and temperature for maximum seed
germination, rapid seedling emergence and plant development without
requirement of fertilizers for its establishment. Turf Mat has great potential
commercialization in the landscape and also road construction industry as it
is cost effective. |
