Project Title | Home-grown Organic Vegetable MPU |
Project Category | Innovation |
Abstract | The Home-grown Organic Vegetable MPU whereby MPU stands for Mobile Production Unit is a system of cultivating home-grown organic vegetables. The system consists of growth pots with a Ebb-Flow (Flood and Drain) accessory using submersible pump to get the water/nutrients from the pump in the reservoir to the plants, and back to the reservoir again to enable auto watering the compost/soil media with compost tea so that nutrient solution is not discharged into the environment but re-circulated indefinitely. The unit is fixed with wheels thus its mobility to be moved from place to place easily. It is also foldable providing easy storage when not in used. This innovative prototype will enable households to cultivate vegetables for their own consumption which guarantee safe and pesticide-free food. The unit also adds aesthetic value to the house compound and one is therefore not dependent on access to land in order to produce food. |
