Project Title Bio-Based Fly Repellent
Project Category Invention
Abstract A fly repellent is a substance applied to the skin, clothing, or other surfaces which discourages flies (and arthropods in general) from landing or climbing on that surface. Fly repellents help prevent and control the outbreak of fly-borne diseases such as malaria, and pest animals commonly serving as vectors for disease include the fly. This research is to develop a bio-based fly repellent for controlling the fly community. This product is a by-product of the production of activated carbon from palm shell. It is not harmful to humans as there are no additional chemicals added into the solution. This product also requires minimal operating cost due to the minimal modification of existing plant to produce it. Besides, this product is abundantly available in Malaysia as she is one of the larger producers of activated carbon from palm shell.
