Project Title Poly-Crete (Recycled Plastic Powder in Production of Concrete)
Project Category Innovation
Abstract Poly-Crete, a short name for polymer concrete is a concept of producing concrete from recycled plastic powder. The innovation from this concept is largely due to high consumption of plastic bottles but bad in handling the wastes. The plastic powder will be used as replacement for fine aggregates in concrete production. It is known that the usage of recycled waste will reduce environment problem such as sand mining issue. Indirectly, since Poly-Crete is using recycled wastes as its material, the cost of concrete production will be reduced, and this will possibly have an impact towards the construction cost. With this, there will be an increase of more infrastructures in this country, which in beneficial to Malaysia economy. Poly-Crete has a potential to penetrate into construction industrial market as it offers lower price of raw material for concrete. Plus, it is also a more sustainable approach compared to the conventional concrete.
