Garcinia species from Clusiaceae family are rich sources of phytochemical constituents such as biflavonoids, xanthones, benzophenones and others. These constituents exhibit very interesting biological properties, for example the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Garcinia nervosa from Sarawak showed a high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, it is interesting to produce a herbal healing ointment product from this Garcinia species. This new herbal healing ointment is effective to treat skin injuries and diseases, for example cuts, burns, eczema, psoriasis, rashes and tropical allergies by promoting the repairing mechanism in a natural way. There is no risk of chemical effects since the sources of the healing ointment are from natural ingredients derived from the leaves and barks extracts of Garcinia nervosa. Thus, it is safe for human consumption and this product has a great potential in the market of pharmaceutical or dermatological industries. |
