| Abstract | The conventional knapsack sprayer has multitude of occupational safety and health hazards to the user. SMAKS is an answer to overcome such risks of exposure to the hazards mentioned. SMAKS is the acronym of Smart Multi-Accessory Knapsack Sprayer. It has three accessories all in one built-in to the conventional knapsack sprayer which are additional features that a conventional knapsack sprayer does not have. Firstly, it has a built-in measuring bottle attached and connected with a shut off valve to the main body of the knapsack sprayer to control the rate of chemicals required for the spray operation. Therefore, it does not require the measuring of the chemicals separately and pouring into the knapsack sprayer, thus reducing the handling of chemicals. Secondly, it has an adjustable length of stainless steel lance attached permanently to the body to reach different heights of spraying instead of replaceable parts of extended lances which may be misplaced or time consuming to make adjustment. Finally, it has wheels that move around like a trolley at the bottom of the knapsack with a handle attached which does not affect the contour of the knapsack frames that fitted nicely to the back of the user that works like a cargo baggage. Thus when the spraying operation is on flat ground, the user does not have to carry the load. Therefore, SMAKS can provide a lot of relief to the user in the spraying operation. It has enormous commercial potential as it is highly recommended for use in the agricultural industry all over the world. |
