Programme Details

The Diploma in Industrial Chemistry (DIC), is a three year programme with its main focus to turn the students into multi-skilled graduates with good personal traits and knowledge. With the establishment of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), the demand for semi-skilled graduates in Sarawak has grown remarkably. Due to this, the DIC programme was further expanded to UiTM Sarawak in Jun 2013 with its first intake of twenty-one students. The introduction of this programme in UiTM Sarawak is very significant in order to cater for the growing demand from the chemical industries particularly in the sectors of petrochemicals, polymers, upstream and downstream of petroleum and gas, specialty chemicals and oleochemicals. Some of the courses taken by the students in this programme are organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry. Apart from these, the students also will take some basic courses in Chemical Engineering namely Unit Operation, Process Control, Industrial Process, Fluid Mechanic, Heat Transfer and Thermodynamic. The students of this program also will attend a three-month industrial training which will further expose them to the industrial workplace and environment. The industrial training will give more experience and value-added advantage to the students, to prepare them for the working world. The graduates of the Diploma in Industrial Chemistry can further their studies in any relevant degree program offered by the Faculty of Applied Sciences, UiTM Shah Alam as well as in other public or private universities in Malaysia.
