Program Details

The profession of chemical engineers uses the knowledge of mathematics and natural sciences gained through study and practical experience and this knowledge is applied through analysis and design to solve problems as well as to develop processes and systems for the benefits of mankind. To help the chemical engineers in the chemical industries, a large number of skilled technical personnel are very much required. Realising this need, we designed a curriculum towards the conferment of the Diploma in Chemical Engineering. The first intake of students in Universiti Teknologi MARA Sarawak began in 2007. This programme also is offered at the UiTM Pasir Gudang, Johor and UiTM Bukit Besi, Terengganu campuses. This is a three (3) year programme which consists of six (6) semesters. For final semester, students are required to undergo the industrial training to complete their Diploma programme. The engineering courses are structured into three categories namely concepts and theories, humanity and liberalisation as well as competency and skills courses.

Job Opportunities

Malaysia is a rapidly developing country, which is in need of highly-skilled and technically adept Chemical Engineers. Graduates from the Diploma of Chemical Engineering program can expect to find vocations as Technical Support Operatives, Assistant Engineers and Service Engineers in a wide range of fields, including the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and the oil and gas industries. Apart from that, our Diploma graduates can also find employment in various other job requirements such as in maintaining and managing natural resources (petroleum and palm oil), recycling materials and protecting the environment.

Further Study Opportunities

Diploma graduates must obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.5 at the end of Semester 6 in order to apply for Bachelor Programs in Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA. Bachelor Programs offered are: 1. Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) Chemical 2. Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) Oil and Gas 3. Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) Chemical with Environment Diploma graduates also can apply to further studies at other universities either locally or abroad where the minimum CGPA requirement is based on the universities requirement.

Admission Requirement

A pass in SPM or its equivalent which is recognized by the Malaysian Government with minimum of five (5) credits including Bahasa Melayu, AND a pass in History. - Fulfills UiTM General qualification as above, AND - At least credit in SPM for the following subjects: - Mathematics, AND - Additional Mathematics, AND - Physics, AND - Chemistry/Biology/EngineeringTechnology/ Engineering Drawing/Information and Communication Technology/ Reka Cipta/Civil Engineering Studies/Mechanical Engineering Studies/ Electric & Electronic Engineering Studies - English Language OR Students completed Pre-Diploma Science (PD007/PD008) from UiTM. OR Certificates from Polytechnics/IKM/other institutions recognized by the Malaysian Government with minimum grade B in English Language, Mathematics, Engineering Science and FOUR (4) other subjects.
